Cash’s Annual Gumbo Cook-Off started in our front yard back in 2011. It also out-grew our front yard that year! Every year we have been shocked by the increased support and fun that we have raising money for heart families! In years past, through the Gumbo Cook-Off, Cash for Kids has supported Little Hearts, Inc. and two local CHD families. This year we plan to continue our grant program that assists families with some of the extra living expenses incurred during hospitalizations and surgery travel.
The Gumbo Cook-Off is set-up on a large outdoor playground (with an indoor gym as a rain back-up!) at Crescent City Christian School in Metairie. The location is so GREAT because the playground is fenced in so families may feel safe to let their little ones run and play while the adults visit and explore our auction table. There are tables for sitting, bathrooms near-by, and all the gumbo you can eat (with the fixins!) provided, as well as beverages! This is a family event and all ages are welcome! Every year we rely on our wonderful chefs to provide enough gumbo for the crowds and every year they have come through! We have a panel of judges whose palates we trust and they are always up to the challenge of picking a new champion! We don’t leave it just up to the judges though; we also do a people’s choice award!
